It Can All Wait.....

I keep putting off all the fun things I like to do because I am "too busy". I finally realized one day a couple of weeks ago after crashing from exhaustion both mental and physical that I will never get everything done at work and that it's going be just fine if I don't. I decided that I am going to take each weekend off instead of working 24/7 and do some of the things I used to do to feed my soul. This was my first weekend of this experiment and here is how it went:

Friday afternoon-took husband and son to the airport, they will be gone until Monday :)

Friday night - Cleaned house, answered a few more emails, shut down the work computer and left it out in the office....big step for me. Watched a chick flick.

Saturday-Slept until 1:00-fabulous.... Called a friend whom I hadn't spent time with in 6 months. She is 70 yrs old and makes me laugh. I hope I am like her when I am 70. Her name is Judith.Went to lunch with Judith and caught up, it was great to visit with someone who doesn't want to talk about the business. Then we went to Hobby Lobby and spent about 2 hours...It was so much fun. Husband and son started texting me with things that needed to be handled. Shit....every time I go into Hobby Lobby this happens so I end up buying nothing because my to do list is getting longer the more texts I answer. So instead of buying into it this time I tell son..."read your Valentines Card and leave me alone....or I will turn off phone." So they opened the card I had stuck in hubbys bag and found the goofy poem I had written along with the $100 bill and a note that said have fun. Next text from son said "Love you, have a relaxing day and don't worry about anything...it can all wait". Amazing.....it's not like they wouldn't have spent money if they wanted to...I guess there is just something about having permission from each other that lets us not feel guilty every time we spend money on ourselves. Bought some fun little nick nacks for my house at HL. They had a 50% sale going on so took advantage. Took Judith home then back to the house.

Made some angel hair pasta with lemon butter and artichokes. Yum.

Sunday- Again, slept late, got up about noon. Incredibly beautiful day...about 63 and sunshine. Could not believe it since it's been cold and rainy for what seems like forever...and this is TX! Decided to repot all the dead plants on my porch and get some color and spring greenery going on.. Finally....time to get out in the dirt. Since it was so nice I took my newest baby (ok, officially I purchased it for my son but we both know who's name is on the title :) a yellow 71 Mustang Mach 1. It's a 50 something girls dream car! So loud, so bad, so fun. Took it to the feed store and bought some plants then to Subway for a sandwich then to the carwash which I discovered was broken after I spent all my quarters. Then to deliver flowers to 3 people in town whose friendship I cherish and wish them a Happy Valentines Day. Went to my friend Gigi's house and another couple were visiting...I talked to the guys a while and it was getting really cold so I went to look for the ladies and give them a ride. Pulled up in the "Stang" and they had a fit as they didn't know about it. Well they are from the same vintage as I am so they definately knew it was the cool car in the 70's. They hopped in and I had them close their eyes while I set the ipod on the perfect song for the 1/8 mile back to the house. I hit the gas and the engine sounded like a drag racer then Freebird came on over the stereo and we all three screamed like we were in high school again and took off..it was a blast!!

So with pictures taken and hugs given it was a perfect end to a perfect weekend. I headed around the corner back to the house and ate the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup I bought for dinner and went to bed. :)

I don't think it's going to be that difficult for me to turn off work each weekend any more.
