I am finally getting serious about my garden and am so excited! I live on 5 acres in the Hill Country south of Austin. The dirt is very rocky as we live on top of a hill and everyplace I dig to plant I hit
grey limestone rocks. I have always loved the look of those grey rocks in pictures of Ireland and England. I thought it would be lovely having an abundance of them until I realized they would be in the ground!
I pictured nice old grey buildings, beautiful stone walls with ivy cascading over the side. Well anyway...it is what it is and through digging around them or digging them up or more honestly having them dug up...I finally have some places to plant. I met a great landscape guy who informed me that the reason most everything I plant doesn't last is because my dirt is so poor. He is enriching the soil in each of the raised beds so that what gets planted sticks around more than one season! You would think I would know that by now; I mean as many garden books and magazines as I read..
I think I will chronicle the progress as it begins to unfold bed by bed.
