My New Favorite Book

This new book by quilter Malka Dubrawsky found it's way to my home on Christmas. Well OK,,,,I bought it for myself for Christmas but the details don't matter. It is my new favorite, go to, quilt instruction, inspiration book. I first found out about Malka while surfing the quilt sites several months ago. She has a blog called A Stitch in Dye and the beautiful colors in her hand dyed fabrics caught my eye. I was thrilled to find out she is a local Austinite as all of the other blogs I read are quilters on the other side of the country and I just kind of wondered if there were any modern quilters around here. Then a few months later I was cruising the Austin Quilt Show and landed in her booth. Her fabrics, quilts and pillows filled the room with the vibrant color combinations which is her signature style and she was both warm and friendly to chat with. I purchased a couple pieces of fabric and immediately went home to make some "Malka coasters"! Since I am new at all this it was fun to be able to make something right away that actually turned out pretty good. I think that is one of the reasons I love this book. Simplicity. Her writing style feels like you are sitting in the room and she is explaining a technique over a cup of coffee. It is not intimidating or overwhelming like other quilt books I have purchased yet it is not so much a beginner quilt book either. I see it as one of those books I will go to time and time again even as my skills improve. Not only for the how to's or tips she shares but the inspiration I get each time I revisit it.
